FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know before jumping in the saddle with us.

Before the trip

No. All our tours include off-road riding sessions with certified instructors. They are designed even for first-time off-road riders: we start from scratch and learn while having fun.

Valid category-A motorcycle licence, ID card or passport (for tours crossing into France or to Sardinia), bike registration and insurance documents. For trips abroad we also recommend the International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card).

We are not a tour operator and do not sell insurance packages. Off-road riding carries risks: we recommend checking that your motorcycle insurance covers off-road use or taking out a specific personal accident policy (e.g. FMI — Italian Motorcycling Federation).

For "Beginner · Intermediate" tours (Via del Sale, Lunigiana, Eroica) you just need to ride safely on tarmac on a suitable bike (enduro, dual sport or maxi adventure). Intermediate tours (Sommeiller, Sardinia) require some gravel familiarity and confidence on the pegs. For Specialised Enduro we also welcome complete beginners, with dedicated guides.

Yes, absolutely. Our groups are always mixed and the approach is inclusive: pace calibrated on the slowest rider, frequent breaks, zero pressure. Many of our regulars started with zero off-road experience.

Bike & gear

No, the motorcycle is your own. For each tour we specify the recommended type (specialised enduro, dual sport or maxi adventure). We can help you pick the best fit for your level or rent one from a local partner.

For mixed tarmac/gravel tours: maxi adventure bikes 900-1300cc (GS, Tenere, Africa Twin, Super Adventure) or mid-range dual sports (Tenere 700, 790 Adventure). For pure enduro tours: specialised 250-500cc 4-stroke or 2-stroke. Engine size matters less than tyre choice: for all our tours we recommend 50/50 tyres such as Tourance Next, TKC 80, Scorpion Rally.

Full-face or cross helmet with visor, off-road jacket and trousers with CE armour, rigid high boots, protective gloves. We also recommend body armour (back protector + chest plate) and a neck brace. For multi-day tours: soft or rigid luggage, waterproofs.

For all mixed tours (Via del Sale, Lunigiana, Eroica, Sommeiller) 50/50 tyres such as Continental TKC 80, Metzeler Karoo 3/4, Mitas E-07, Pirelli Scorpion Rally. Road tyres (e.g. Tourance, Anakee) are not recommended: they work on dry gravel but slide on wet tracks. For pure enduro tours: homologated off-road tyres (FIM).

Yes. We partner with rental outlets in Piemonte, Liguria, Tuscany and Sardinia. Write to us in advance (minimum 15 days) with chosen tour, your height and budget: we'll put you in direct contact with the rental agency.

Costs & booking

Specialised Enduro day trips in Liguria start from €30 per day. Multi-day tours (Via del Sale, Sardinia, Sommeiller, Lunigiana, L'Eroica) have tailored prices depending on group size, accommodation and logistics. Contact us for a personalised quote.

Certified guide, GPS tracks, technical briefings, logistical support, off-road riding sessions. Depending on the package: accommodation at partner hotels, half board, dedicated motorcycle parking. Not included: fuel, tolls, packed lunches, personal insurance.

To confirm a booking we ask for a 30% deposit by bank transfer. The balance is paid in cash or by transfer on arrival day. We don't handle direct online payments: everything goes through email or WhatsApp.

Yes. Free cancellation up to 30 days before. Between 30 and 15 days: we keep 50% of the deposit. Within 15 days: the deposit is non-refundable. In case of severe weather or force majeure: we reschedule the tour to new dates at no extra cost.

Fill in the contact form on the website, write to WhatsApp at +39 327 166 5369 or send an email to ridebeyond.adv@gmail.com. We'll reply within 24 hours with availability, logistics and deposit payment instructions.

During the tour

Small groups: 4 to 8 riders per guide, to ensure individual attention and calibrated pace. For larger groups we add a second guide. We don't run mass tours.

Off-road falls are part of the game: in most cases you pick the bike up and carry on. Guides are trained in first aid and vehicle recovery. We always carry a tool kit and first-aid bag. For serious breakdowns or injuries, logistics include the rider's return and bike recovery via our local network.

Selected venues: farmhouses, mountain refuges, small 3-star hotels with bike garage. Never chain hotels. The cuisine is local, abundant, with menus agreed in advance for guests with intolerances or who are vegetarian.

On average 5-7 effective riding hours per day, covering 150-250 km (highly variable depending on trail difficulty and bike type). Frequent breaks: coffee, viewpoints, photos, mid-day lunch. We don't do forced marches.

Yes. At the end of each tour we email you the stage GPX tracks (universal format, compatible with Garmin, Locus, Gaia, Komoot). During the tour, guides share the day's track the previous evening via WhatsApp group.

Destinations

Ride Beyond ADV runs tours on the Via del Sale (Maritime Alps, Italy/France), Colle del Sommeiller (Susa Valley, 2,993m), Lunigiana and Garfagnana (Tuscany), Sardinia (Gennargentu/Supramonte) and technical training in Liguria. On request we design custom tours in the Apennines, Dolomites and Balkans.

Via del Sale: June-September. Sommeiller: July-August (the pass is only accessible in full summer). Lunigiana and Garfagnana: April-October. Sardinia: March-May and September-October (avoid July-August due to extreme heat). L'Eroica: April-June and September-October. Specialised Enduro in Liguria: all year round, weather permitting.

Yes. Guides speak Italian, English and conversational French. For German- or Spanish-speaking groups we can arrange an interpreter or bilingual guide.

Light rain: we ride. Heavy rain or snow: route reworked on more tarmac sections or reduced kilometres. In truly prohibitive conditions (thunderstorms, landslide risk, snow at altitude): we reschedule the stage at no extra cost.

Yes, especially for Sardinia, Lunigiana and Eroica tours where the host venues are pleasant for non-riders too. For technical tours (Sommeiller, Specialised Enduro) it's less advisable due to remote logistics. Contact us and we'll organise everything.
